As I became an adult many years ago, I learned that reality was subjective. It depends on one's vantage. Objective, factual truth is a rarity. And so we fill any gaps with our own narratives - pieced together by our biases, shaped by stories told by those in control.

Have you ever changed a belief? Or discovered that something you once knew as fact was actually incorrect? I have. Many times. From one truth to another contradictory truth, but each valid during their existence. While facts may be unassailable, truth remains a sum of the known and unknown.

Stories are malleable. We're all susceptible to the egregious lie that suits our time. The relentless pursuit of truth is the only antidote. That requires one to seek information that invalidates one's own beliefs. Unfortunately, few desire to be proved wrong, so they instead seek information that confirms their views.

Joseph Goebbels was a skilled propagandist who manufactured a lie so bold it could only be true. He manipulated a population desperate for answers, by telling them what they wanted to hear. The story they sold to Germans was one of the greatest marketing feats ever conducted, resulting in one of most deadly periods in human history.

I fear humanity has already forgotten.
